The cell phone technology has gotten a lot better in recent years. If you take a look back 5-7 years ago, most phones had limited capabilities and only worked as a phone. Today, cell phones can do much more than that including the following wonders: access the Internet, browse web pages, check for directions, work as an MP3 player and so much more.

It is estimated that ringtones are a 7 billion dollar industry that has the potential to grow into 11 billion by the year 2010. What makes this industry so important is our society has always focused around music in one way or another. Companies that allow you to download Verizon ringtones and AT&T ringtones are facing challenges as the carriers are trying to control how you get your downloads. AT&T for instance, does not let you to download any ringtone for your iPhone as they want to control the ringtone market.

“Apple the maker of the iPhone, wants their chunk of the multi-billion dollar ringtone market. They have been working hard to bring their services. They plan on charging around two dollars per ringtone which is about double what you would pay for a full length song on iTunes.” explained Josh Evans an industry official.

The fact is, technology is certainly making things in our life more enjoyable but at the same time costing us more money. As it stands now, the ringtone is the most expensive piece of music out there. For a 8-10 second song it cost anywhere from a few dollars to as much as $9.95 per month.
